FAQs
Is the network a means to find a job in the tourism industry?
The Young Tourism Network is not an employment agency, but it could be as useful as one! The tourism industry is a huge, segmented and dynamic industry and the best way to get to the top is to use your skills to your advantage, take the initiative and network, network, network.
The Job page on this site takes you to many industry and employment WebPages where you will find the majority of tourism industry related jobs available. These websites can not, however, introduce you to the people working in these positions, in these organisations or in the industry as a whole, but being a member of the Young Tourism Network will.
So join up, and start moving your career in the right direction.
Membership
How do I become a member of Young Tourism Network?
All you have to do is fill in the membership application form which you will find in the membership section and either post, fax or email it to the Young Tourism Network along with payment details. If you have any questions when filling in the form you can contact the Membership Co-ordinator at info@youngtourismnetwork.com. Please allow 2 weeks for your membership application to be processed.
How do I know if I am eligible to become a member? If you are interested in joining we won't knock you back! The Young Tourism Network is an inclusive network of young tourism professionals; new entrants to the tourism industry (from another career area, after time away from the industry or as a graduate/new employee); and students of a Tourism and Hospitality related degree, diploma or certificate course.
We also have a group membership option tailored for tourism businesses, organisations, and associations who may employ young tourism professionals.
For the purpose of the Young Tourism Network, the Tourism Industry encompasses all tourism related fields such as travel, leisure, hospitality, marketing, events, attractions, industry organisations, education providers, tour operations and tourism business operators etc.
Please contact the Young Tourism Network if you have any concerns about your eligibility.
Why is the membership for 2 years?
This period of time was chosen in order for you to gain the most out of the Young Tourism Network, and for others to benefit from you being a member. It will allow you to forge concrete relationships in the industry, both professionally and socially, that will assist you in your future career.
Also, by being involved for more than 12 months, you will have the opportunity to become involved in the management of the Young Tourism Network by being nominated to be a member of the committee.
I am an International student only in Australia for 12 months. Is there a membership option for me?
Yes. We realise as an International student you may only be in the country for a short time. For that reason we have on offer a 12 month membership at $45 per annum. This will still allow you to make use of all membership benefits and will hopefully allow you to create a network which you will continue to have contact with once you returned to your home country.
What if I am going away for a period of time? Can I suspend my membership?
Yes, you can suspend your membership for a period of up to 12 months without any costs or hassle incurred. Just contact us for more information.
Can I come to a member event if I am not a member?
Yes, you can in most cases. Some events will be members only but there will be many events where you can come along, get an idea about what the network is all about and then take membership information with you.
Members will always gain member benefits at 'open' events, such as early alerts, drink tokens or the chance to enter a door prize giveaway.
What happens when my membership expires?
When your membership is one month from expiry, you will be sent membership renewal information so it will be easy for you to continue your membership without any gaps.
Committee
How was the first committee formed?
The first committee of management was formed when those interested in assisting Lucy Hooper in moving the Young Tourism Network forward contacted her in December 2005. The group then began working on the Business Plan, Operational Rules and spreading the word to industry about the formation of the Young Tourism Network. The group then decided, with the assistance of Tourism Alliance Victoria, to form a member based organisation with a committee of management.
The committee meets monthly to make decisions on various YTN issues and to plan our events.
For more information on the committee, or to find out who is currently on the committee, click here.
How can I become involved in the committee?
The process for electing new committee members is outlined in the Operational Rules of the Young Tourism Network. Committee elections take place through a nomination process around the same time as the YTN Annual General Meeting in March/April.
However, there are always opportunities to be involved on 'sub-committees' to organise events and assist with the promotion of the Young Tourism Network - contact us to find out more.
Industry Partnerships
How can my business/organisation become an industry partner?
