Mentoring
Members of the Young Tourism Network who are employed in the tourism industry are encouraged to support the future entrants to the Tourism Industry by being involved in the mentoring of students undertaking tourism, hospitality or events degrees and diplomas.
In 2008, mentoring opportunities will be offered for second year diploma students at NMIT (see program details below).
If you would like your institute to be involved in YTN Mentoring you must do the following:
Ensure your school, department or institute is a Group Member or Industry Partner of the YTN

Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT) Mentoring Program 2008
The Young Tourism Network, in partnership with the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE are continuing the successful partnership and tourism mentoring program in 2008.
The program will build on the existing mentoring program offered to 2nd year students at NMIT, who are partnered with an industry or business professional.
The following information and links outline the responsibilities of mentors and how to become a part of this fantastic program.
What does it take to become an NMIT mentor?
To be a mentor with this program, you must have the following attributes:
- Be a YTN Member
- Working full time or part time within the tourism industry
- Be able to meet with your student four times during the mentoring year
- Be enthusiastic and passionate about the tourism industry!
What does NMIT mentoring involve?
Mentors and students meet 4 times in the year with the year with the duration of meetings and location agreeable to both parties. As a mentor, you will provide the following services to your student:
- Provide information about career opportunities (general and/or specific)
- Offer insights into workplace/s (not necessarily work experience)
- Assist with development of skills and/or networking
- Discussion about projects or subjects (but not tutoring)
When NMIT have all the information required from you (see below) you will be required to complete and agree to three forms:
Mentoring Participation Agreement (mentor to complete)
Goal Setting Exercise - Student and Mentor to complete
Mentoring Agreement - Student and Mentor to complete
